OVERCOMING SELF & CHOOSE TO FAST

Of all the  monthly focuses, this one on fasting is the most foreign to our culture today.  the thought of actually denying ourselves is just not popular!

And yet, Jesus said there would come a day when his disciples would fast.

Biblical fasting usually focuses on food, but cutting out anything that gets in the way of spending time with God such as social media, internet browsing, watching TV, etc. honors God.

When fasting, turning to God through prayer & getting into His Word, the Bible, is as important as turning away from the things of this world.

FYI: Fasting from food without prayer is just dieting!

MEMORY VERSE

"then Jesus said to his disciples, 'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.'"
Matthew 16:24
